Ellis is awesome

We really enjoyed our audio tour that took us through the process that was going on during the years the island was in use. I particularly enjoyed the architecture and was really glad that the audio tour had detailed information for us about the buildings. Once we got finished we headed to what was the last ferry of the day and return to the hostel. Making our way back to the hostel was a bit hard for me I kinda feel like the walking dead with this head cold and I was sooo ready to crash. We picked up a few food items on our way back to the hostel. I just have to say that Becca is such a good sport because I was gone the minute my head hit the pillow and Lisa had still not gotten back. I feel a bit better right now after 3 hours sleep and serious medicating. Now the girls are playing cards and I am probably gonna return to sleepland in hopes to conquer this monster.
P.S. the pic is of some cool old money from Ellis.
Sittin' on the dock of the bay...
So couldn't go into the statue without special tickets that I hadn't found. So we walked the parimeter took some picks got some souvineers (sp?) and spent a few contemplative (sp?) moments looking at the statue in all it's green glory. Now waitin on the dock for the ferry to Ellis. Cold fingers must return to gloves!
Late start and sick.

So since Lisa wouldn't be back until 12-1p we decide to sleep in, that was all relative for me since I was awake most the night. No worries, we got up and went out to b-fast at the local joint called Tina's diner and had a cheap tasty meal. Well we heard from Lisa that is was going to be hard to travel back due to the snow and said to go on ahead with or activities. So it was down to the subway to make our way to the ferry for the islands. Well it was a long line as you can see and slowly but surely we are making our way to the dock. First we have to go through airport like security... Wish us luck!

After the show
So we all enjoyed theater going. West Side Story was nice, not what I remembered, but good. Then we kinda had to head to Penn Station because that is where Lisa needed to depart for her camp experience with the girls. So we decided to pick out an eatery around the station. Well plenty of places inside the station, I was happy because we chose a Fridays and I had never been to one, yeah yeah American food same ole same ole but whatevs. Then there was some speed eating on Lisa's part because they damn near took forever to get us our food, she was just about to get a box and take it with her when they arrived. So as soon as she finished she was off to catch her train. Then me and Becca took a few minutes to finish our meals and then decided on an outing of cold medicine & iPhone charger. The cold meds were easy to nab given that there are local places almost every corner but the supposed Apple store that was near...not so near. We were cool with walking, well I was and Becca said she was (I believe her). We headed towards Apple with every intention of reaching it, well who knows how many blocks in the dark in the cold we walked but when we came upon an ATT store it was like "they have them lets get it there!" After we left the ATT store we headed back to the subway and the nice surprise we came upon was that we ended up passing the Rockefeller center and got to see the tree all lit up!!! The down side is we got on the wrong line and had to transfer and then get on the right one. I was surprised that I got us a bit messed up...maybe I shouldn't admit that...well anyway we are at our hostel and all is well.
Our 12 girl dorm isn't that bad and its pretty spacious so we are fine. I am happy because I get to use a real computer not just my phone, not that I am putting my phone down, it is the best of the best! Sorry will stop with the iPhone talk... So tomorrow we pushed our first day activities to our 3rd day, that means Statue/Ellis island will be the big travel sites and then it will be off to the BIG Old Navy in town. I was happy that today was not as cold as yesterday, specially since we were so nicely informed that yesterday was suppose to be the coldest while we are here. Maybe the days ahead aren't above 40 degrees but we seem to be managing just fine.
oh pretty lights

Ok so who slept through their alarm this morning? We did! Grrrrr Arrrggg. Thank goodness Kristen called us because that is what woke us up. So much for obeing prepared, having continental breakfast and getting to our sites on time. :( Lets see, with our late start chauffeur Kristen was nice enough to stop at a starbucks and a bagel place to get us sustenance. Then it was off to our hostel... In the ghetto, but hey Nat it's in the polish area at least. So I figure we don't have any time before our 2 p show of West Side Story. So we r kinda flyin' by the seat of our pants and you all know how I feel about that... So we'll see...

Guess what we did?
So after lunch we went back to the shopping center and went to Borders. As you all can see I couldn't resist, also I got to use my gift card! There was also the great opportunity for Lisa to buy a gift for her exchange with her friends from camp (who she is meeting tomorrow). Then we walked, yes walked, despite the wind chill causing the air to feel like -2F needles in our face, down to Times Square. Very fun all the theater lights and the stores, of course we made one loop around, took a couple photos and then high tailed it outta there into the nearest subway. Then it was on to our hotel in Uniondale. So let me explain why a hotel. Kristen's dad won tickets for a free night stay at a Marriott and so she offered it to us. It was really sweet and so we took her up on the offer considering the next 6 days would be 12 girl dorm, no privacy and loads of bunk beds. Anywho we were lucky that Kristen was so kind to pick us up at the station again on arrival and take us tithe hotel to check in, she even had a little gift for everyone. Then the long process of what's for dinner began, you all know what that's like and how tedious choosing what you are to consume can be. So despite a group of non-decision makers we managed to pick a nice place where good soup and bread could be found. On our way back we made a quick stop at Kristen's house to say hi and meet her cute puppy Maddie. Her mom is so nice, nonstop offering us food and drink, she even sent a cookie platter with us, so cute. Anyway gotta go and warm my core temperature back up with a nice hot shower, till tomorrow.
Explorin' but first let's eat!

Kristin, Lisa's friend from camp, was sooo nice to pick us up at Penn station. She dropped us off at a shoppig center and we walked to a nearby diner to eat. Lisa is dying of cold, hehe.
P.S. Since on the phone pics will b seperated.
Frozen in waiting!
Ok so we headed off to NY last night about 10p to catch our 12:25a flight. Luckily I slept most the time even with the transfer in Dallas. Then coming into Newark we had the descent from hell! We circled and circled I was so ready to hurl. Anyways finally got to the terminal picked up our luggage and made our way to the airtram. Now we are standing in a waiting room on the rail platform next to a door that is broken and open, frostbite might just set in. Since I am doing this on my phone my fingers are officially frozen so I will sign off for now. Later.

Very lucky!
So it was all thanks to Becca (Lisa's youngest sister) that I am getting to go. She was given a trip to New York from Lisa as a gift and they just happend to invite me. She doesn't have to take me but she is so nice and said it would be fine. So I am taking another trip, my first to the east coast.
Of course we will be doing all the classic tourist activities, no trip is complete without them!
- Statue of Liberty
- Elis Island
- MoMA
- Natural History Museum
- central park
- Empire state
- Guggenheim
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Broadway: Billy Elliot & Westside Story
- bakerys and pastry shops are also on our list (Becca is into culinary arts)
This is going to be very fun. Now that we are done moving I think I will be able to spend more time on the planning (everyone knows how I am about that)
